Democracy in Athens

  Elections are the epitome of democracy in our times,right? Well,the Athenians had another view.Unlike the representative democracies in most of the country today,Athens was a direct democracy.This meant that any of its eligible citizens who can have a chance to make the decisions. Rather than being elected,people in Athens were chosen by lot.The ballot preventing governing classes,or Hierarchical-system.
  However,who's eligible citizens?Athenians thought that only the adult male who owned land could have qualifications,women and slaves were denied participating in democracy.Apparently,the power were still controlled by some specific people,the rich men. Some ancient philosophers disagreed this kind of democracy and thought it ran by fools.Some people had the same opinion and shared it.However,they all were killed in that time.
  Representative democracy might have its good to become  the main system of democracy today,but it still has a lot of problems which need us to think about it.You might disagree the system of Athens democracy,but it's true that our "democracy" origins from them.
